ESL Classes

ESP Program

“My Avance experience impacted my life forever. ... Since childhood I had wanted to be a teacher, but because I came from a large, poor family, this seemed impossible. When I arrived in this country, my dream seemed even more distant because I didn’t speak English—how wrong I was! Avance opened the doors to resources that immigrants like me could depend on. It was at Avance that I began my first ESL and GED lessons. ... Two years ago I accomplished my goal of obtaining a bachelor’s degree. I am now a kindergarten teacher in a DISD elementary school, and I plan to continue studying to obtain my master’s degree.”
~ Marielena, Avance-Dallas graduate

Avance-Dallas provides ESL (English as a Second Language) classes to parents who graduate from our Parent-Child Education Program and want to further their education. Through our ESL classes:

• Low-income Spanish-speaking parents advance in English-speaking and writing skills

• Low-income Spanish-speaking parents learn practical life and workplace English for improving their earning power

• Participants’ children engage in free, enriched early child care while parents attend classes

• Low-income children receive a model of achievement in their parents at home

In Avance-Dallas ESL classes, parents advance themselves and their children by mastering the English language and improving their station in life.
