Stressed-Out Mom Becomes Resource for Other Moms
Juana Lorena remembers
the day someone asked her to come to Avance-Dallas.
She was trying to juggle her newborn and toddler, and she felt “tied up”
because of her young children. She couldn’t imagine adding a class on top of that.
But Avance-Dallas changed her whole outlook
on her family and life. Looking back now, she says, “I got a lot of strength
from Avance.” She learned how to
better engage her children in an educational way, and she found help for her
son’s unique challenges.
As helpful as Avance-Dallas was for improving Juana
Lorena’s own home, that wasn’t enough. She wanted to spread the Avance educational message to other moms
of young children. That’s why she became a Promotora, a volunteer graduate who visits
with other Bachman Lake moms in their homes to help them become their child’s
first teacher. As Juana Lorena puts it, “it is a beautiful thing to
give back the blessings that I have received.”
